This section would be most useful to university lecturers who teach intercultural communication and cultural studies courses. These 20 lectures can be used for freshman or sophomore intercultural communication courses, as well as for content-based seminars for second language university learners in their junior or senior years. Each topic consists of 2 lectures, with 1 lecture being a 90-minute lesson. The lectures provide an overview of the theories of intercultural communication, and examine how culture is evident in languages, behaviors, rituals and world views. They also investigate the influences on intercultural communication, the development of cultural identities, and issues of inequality. The interactive slide presentations allow students time to complete worksheets and to discuss themes. There is a comparative emphasis on Japanese culture with other Asian cultures since that is my field of expertise. Other cultural perspectives from the Europe, the Middle East and the U.S. are also included in the lectures. The textbook used in this course is Fred Jandt's An Introduction to Intercultural Communication: Identities in a Global Community.
