Learning how to analyze, interpret, and respond critically to literature some of the main components in any freshman literature course This is done through analyzing literature as a human experience and through historical/cultural lenses with the use of literary terms, such as plot, character development, and many other literary elements. In this section, students new to critical analysis can use these 10 lessons to help guide themselves through literary texts, whether they be novels, poetry, drama or graded readers. Instructors can also use the interactive slide presentations and handouts to teach their own literary analysis and composition courses. These materials are most appropriate for freshmen students, as well as second language learners studying overseas, who need to know how read texts closely, think critically, and respond to texts in their writing assignments.
