Hi everyone,

Can you believe that we're almost half way through our course? I hope you're making progress with your English communication skills.

Asking for and Giving Examples:
Before our discussions, we had a short activity on how to ask for and give examples. It's important to give detailed information when you give an opinion, so you can give examples to support it.

To ask for examples, you can use these questions:
  1. Can you give me an example?
  2. Like what, for example?
  3. Can you expand on that?
To give examples, you can use these expressions:
  1. For example, ... / For instance, ....
  2. One example is...
  3. Let me give you an example.
  4. Off the top of my head, ...

Discussions:
For next week's discussions, remember these points:
  1. Member interactions. In your discussions, there is a lot of communication between the group lead and the members. However, we need more communication among members. To improve member interactions, group leaders can ask these questions: (1) Are there any comments on ...'s opinion? (2) Do you agree with ...'s opinion?
  2. Body language. Pay attention to your body language. When you cross your arms, it gives a negative message (e.g. I don't want to talk.)

Homework:

1.  Discussion Preparation
2.  Blog Post #7

In next week's lesson, you will get information about our group presentations in June. You will get the presentation guidelines and your group members.

Blog Question #7:

What are the differences between your Oral English 1 course and our Oral English 2 course?

  • Write 8-10 sentences.
  • Use capitalization, punctuation & spelling correctly.
  • Submit by Wednesday, May 27 by 6:00pm.

I think there are some differences between Oral English 1 cours and Oral English 2 cours. First of all, we studied grammar before. However, we studied only communication skill now. Secondly, OE1, one on one communication style was basic. However, OE2, the group communication style is basic. Finally, a feeling of air is different. Before, a feeling of air was heavy, but now a feeling of air is good. If there is different, I want to do the best.

There are many differences between OE1 and OE2.First,I studied grammar and usage by using textbook in OE1.On the other hand I am studying oral communication skill which especially is used on discussion. It is useful for me to learn this skill.Because when I was examinee,I learn grammar by heart very head. However I hardly studied English conversation.Second, there is test such as listening, vocaburary and grammar regularly last year.I wish OE2's style was continued.

There are some differences between Oral English 1 cours and Oral English 2 cours. First of all, in Oral English 1 cours,we communicate one-to-one, but in this cours, we talk with many classmates. I prefere the latter to former because I want to tallk with various people and I think this cours make my English ability divelop. Secondly, it is different in member's English ability. Thanks to Oral English 1 cours, we could improve our ability and increase our vocabulary!

There are some differences between OE1 and OE2. First, Mr. Nicol tells me difficult English word in Japanese. The OE1 of last year was a lesson only in English. I couldn't understand because lesson was fast difficult English. Second, this OE2 lesson can communicate with everyone. So I get the ability to speak English a little. I'm happy because I can speak with classmate about various topics with classmate. I prefer lesson style of OE2 to OE1.

What are the differences between your Oral English 1 course and our Oral English 2 course?

There are some differences between OE1 and OE2. First, we did not take the communication and only merely spoke English. Because we only read the notebook which an English sentence was written on. But I feel we can take a communication more in OE2. Second, I want to learn useful English. However we learned only grammar of English in OE1. In OE2 we learn to take discussion skill with English. Also I enjoy talking with many people in this class. OE2 is more fun than OE1.

I think thare are many differences between Oral English1 and Oral English2. First, we studied grammer more at OE1 course. And we also brushed up listening skills using textbook. In OE2 course, we learn communication skills. I hoped to study that of last year OE1 course. So I am so glad now. Second, The atmosphere of the class is different from last year. I feel that students look fun. Students came to laugh and talk positively. In short, I think it is good progress. And I am interested in OE2 course more than OE1 course.

I think there are two differences between Oral English 1 course and Oral Enclish 2 course. As a first point, we mainly learned the focus of the grammar last year. We used textbook and took a exam about grammar and vocabulary. It is rather similar to the way of learning in high school. But this year, we mainly have a discussion in five or six groups. Both leader and group members need to be actively participation. As a second point, thanks to a good course policy, I think a lively class is developed in this year. It is not good to be a defensive posture. Of course, learning grammar need to improve our English ability. But it is important to take a class spontaneously, too.

There are some differences between Oral English 1 course and Oral English 2 course. First, we got Mr.Zhanje to give me instructions for using the basis grammar in Oral English 1 course. But, in the oral English 2 course, we discuss with the grope members. Second, we used the textbook every class and learned as it in Oral English 1 course. But, we use the Mrs. Nicole’s prints in Oral English 2 course. Third, we had the opportunity which we solve some questions with next partner in Oral English 1 course. But, we solve something with grope members in Oral English 2 course. There are some differences, but I prefer Oral English 2 course’ style to Oral English 1 course’ style.

There are some differences between OE1 and OE2. First, homework. In OE1, there are much homework. For example, We had to write many sentences every week. Second, presentation. OE1 didn't have any chances of presentation. But, OE2 have chances. Finally, this year has many chances that communicate with classmates. So, I feel very fun every week.

I think there are many differences between OE1 and OE2.First, we learned mainly on grammar in OE1.
On the other hand, we learn mainly on communication skills in OE2.I think both of them were important. Second, we submitted homework using a notebook in OE1. However, we submit it using a net now. It is convenient to submit it using a net because we can do it anywhere. I'm not good at English, but I will also do my best in OE2.

I think there are some differences between Oral English 1 course and Oral English 2 course. First difference is discussion. When I took Oral English 1 class last year, there were no discussion. However, this class has a lot of chances to discuss with group members. I'm not good at communicating with others in English so it is difficult for me to do discussion. However thanks to this class, I can have a chance to improve speaking skill so I would like to make the most of this chance. Second difference is homework. Oral English 1 course gave us too much homework and due to it, I was very tired. But this class doesn't have much homework so I'm so happy. This class is so attracive that I want to make an effort to improve my English skill.

In my opinion, there are two differences.
First, communication skill is considered very important in Oral English 2.However,in Oral English 1, It was not so.Second, there is difference in homework. We could not help writing too many words at teacher's request.I think two differences all.I like Oral English 2 more.I want to do my best in this class.

I think there are some differences between Oral English 1 course and Oral English 2 course. In my opinion, the focus of the class was basic English knowledge in OE1 course. I think OE1 course emphasized the knowledge of vocabulary, grammer and the ability of listening and so on. In addition, in OE1 course, we were given two homeworks-English composition and listening. They were hard compared with OE2 course's homeworks but I felt the ability of English made progress. On the other hand, I think the focus of the class is the ability of expressing in English in OE2 course. I think OE2 course regards having own opinion and speaking actively. I feel it is very important skill in present-day Japan and I would like to acquire the skill very much. I want to make an effort to improve my English ability more and more. Also, I hope to spend fruitful time in OE2 course.

In the class of Oral English 1, we wrote a journal every week. Mr. Zhanje gave us a theme. It was a kind of hard work to complete a nice journal in one week. Each journal had to be written by more than thirty sentences. As for speaking and listening, we just read our journals to the classmates sitting next to us. In our Oral English 2 we are learning how to make a nice discussion. Many Japanese students are relatively shy. Actually I am not good at speaking and asking questions in a group. Therefore I think this is a good opportunity to practice a real discussion in English.

There are a lot of differences between my Oral English 1 course and our Oral English 2 course. First, my Oral English 1 course puts emphasis on English listening comprehension and vocabulary. For example, I took the tests about English vocabulary. On the other hand, our Oral English 2 course puts emphasis on the discussion in English. For instance, we discuss various subjects with the members in English. Second, I used a textbook in my Oral English 1 course. The textbook helped me to study English. These differences let me be good at English.

There are many differences between those.
When we studied Oral English 1 course, we used textbook and studied grammar. The seat where we sat was decided and the almost work in two pairs. We got listening skills and got used to write journals.
In Oral English 2 course, we practice discussion every week. We have many chances to speak our own opinion. Before this class, I didn’t know how to move discussion in English. We make different groups each discussion, so we get on with every class mates. I want to continue doing my best.

Second,The Style of talking.I had a bad habit. I read the script, and I could not spread conversation. Now we try to do conversation style and eye contact. I want to do more!
Third, I have more chance. Last class,I had lesson style,so I have a few chance to talk. Now There are a lot of time of it.

I think there are many differences between Oral English 1 course and Oral English 2 course.
Last year, I mainly learned English grammar and vocabulary. So we had a vocabulary test in three or four times for a year. In addition, we must have do a lot of homework. However, Mr. Zhanje did not help me to correct my sentence when I mistook grammar and vocabulary in my homework. Therefore I probably made the same mistake many
times. But now, Mrs.Nicole not only help me to correct my mistake English, but tell us to discuss in English pleasantly and smoothly; for example, body language, showing interest, eye contact and so on. I learned many communication skills. There is few chances to do discussion and presentaion in English by now. So I am thankful for the opportunity. I could give my opinion and ask group member's view quickly than before.
