Oral English 2: Lesson 12

Hi everyone,

We're heading into the home stretch (the "home stretch" is the area between third base and home plate in baseball". This idiom means that you are almost finished something. In this case, we are almost finished out course.

Presentations:

We finished our first group of presentations today. I was really impressed with your presentation skills, especially since you didn't do presentations in Oral English 1.

Overall, everyone made a good effort to make eye contact with the audience, use gestures and presentation language correctly. I was happy to see that many presenters used expressions that they had learned from our discussions: "Let's move onto..." and "Are you following me?"

For next week's presenters, it's really important that you speak loud enough. When you speak loud enough, it shows that you are confident about your topic.

Presentations Reminders:
We start our presentations in next week's lesson. Please remember these points:
  1. Groups 4, 5 and 6: arrive at 8:50am to prepare and set-up your poster.
  2. You can't read your notes. You can use them to help you remember.
  3. Before your presentation, please give me your corrected outline.
  4. Audience members:  arrive on time!

Homework:
1. Blog Comment #10
2. Presentation Preparation

Blog Question #10:

Choose one question to answer.

Question for today's presenters:
How did you feel about your presentation? What did you do well? What do you have to improve?

Question for today's audience:
Which presentation did you like the best? Why?

  • Write 8-10 sentences.
  • Use capitalization, punctuation & spelling correctly.
  • Submit by Wednesday, July 1 by 6:00pm

I did today's presentation well than I imagined it. However, it was very difficult to spend long time. I should have checked a cigarette problem a little more. And I should have practiced more. It was good to be able to know the issue of cigarette through this presentation. And it was good to be able to cooperate with group members. If I do presentation again, I want to do my best. And I want to do the presentation that is better than this time.

The presentation was difficult than I thought. Mr. Shusei and I made a poster mainly, and Mr. Jo looked for a package of a cigarette, and Ms. Kana checked it lastly. My group completed a poster by all the members. I think I could do bring out the best in our people. We should do more practice to do more announcements. It was possible to devise more read speed and practice of a gesture. Then I think a question from an audience was also answered smoothly. I could consider this seriously about a cigarette problem in a chance.

Our presentatin was very difficult because contents of presentation topic is not easy to understand.I
think young girls is worse than older men. However, older not young girls but men must be blamed for compensated dating. Each group has about 20 minutes. So I prepared long manuscript I said.I run out of the time I had because of saying it.Therefore I couldn't check understanding of listnener again and again. If I can have another chance,I will make a good presentation.

Our presentation was little difficult than I thought. It’s because our group’s subject was uncomplicated. So it’s awkward for me to spend the time neatly. Moreover audience’s age was almost 19. My presentation’s theme, “smoking”, lacked a sense of reality for them. That’s why there were not questions and their opinions. But I asked them some questions about our theme so I could exchange ideas with them. This time, I exerted myself to make eye contact with them and to speak with gestures. However it’s not perfect. Therefore I want to speak clearly and to have inner reserves next time.

I was interested in child abuse. Child abuse is a very serious problem. Children’s hearts are damaged. They will have trauma for a long time or their trauma won’t disappear forever. Parents have to know their responsibilities. However, some parents have serious problems of their own and cannot rightly take care of their children. Such parents may need psychotherapies by professionals. When I become a teacher and have some doubt about child abuse, I will talk to their parents and think together what to do for their children. We have to love and raise children all together in our society, because children are our hope of the future.

All group presentations were wonderful. I was surprised that the good quality of posters. Even out of those, I think child abuse is the best topic of presentation.
Because I’m studying pedagogy at this university and I’m interested in that topic.
I felt this group’s manuscript is nicely ordered. I can understand easier.
However I found a point for improvement in their presentation that they almost look at their manuscript. I learned from them we need to look at audiences.
Next time, we’ll present our topic. I want to do our best.

In my opinion, all groups were fantastic. The quality of all groups were high. For example, posters were beautiful, voice was loud and so on. However, there is best group for me. The group is members talked about compensated dating. The reason why I chose the group is there are some points. First, the topic was interesting for me. Second, the poster was devised in particular. So, I think the group is best.

I think all presentations were very good. In particularly, I was impressed by "CHILD ABUSE". They tried not to read papers but make eye contacts and gestures. In addition, I could understand at ease because they read clearly. The contents of the presentation were interesting for me. It is because I took some classes of education. I was surprised at the number of child abuse is increasing lately. I'm so sad. I think neighborhood should pay attention any more. It is important to notice at early stage. In conclusion, I also want to do presentation that audiences are able to be interested in.

My group gave presentations about Child Abuse this time. I would like to talk about good points and bad points. First, I think we could speak in a loud voice and check the reaction of audience. In addition, we made an effort to make good poster! On the other hand, I feel we couldn't use many gestures because we looked at manuscripts a lot. I think we needed to practice more. In addition, it was difficult for us to answer questions from audience. I felt it is important to gather a lot of information. Finally, I could learn various things through this presentation and I was glad to be able to help each other in group. In next presentation, I want to make good use of this experience and make progress.

I like "smoking" the best. Because smoking is the problem that is near to me. Also the contents were attractive. I was surprised that Japanese cigarette tax is low in the world. But the number is not low. And I think that it is ridiculous to buy a cigarette. However all presentations was really great. Their posters were creative. So we need to do presentation better last week. I will do my best the day after tomorrow.

I was an audience last class. All group gave me a wonderful presentations. Especially, I liked ''smorking'' group. There are two reasons. First, all members try to explain with their gestures. It was easy to understand and I can listen their presentation without any weariness. Second, they show me many graphs. Their presentation was persuasive and I could accept without dissent. Next week, we need to announce our presentation. I have to prepare well.

Our group gave a presentation about child abuse last class. I have good and bad points about it so I want to tell you about both. First, I would like to talk about good point. I think that I could make eye-contact and speak loud voice. I'm not good at speaking in front of other people, so I felt extremely tense. But thanks to this class's disucussion program, I had the feeling that I am used to doing. So I'm satisfied with this point. Next, my presentation's bad point is not to ask audiences if they were following me at first part. It is important for presenter to check audiences' understanding so I want not to forget to do next time. I think I learned a lot from this presentation so next time, I want to do my best to give better presentation.

I think all group's presentation was high quality. Our group was worried about poster structure but there were many things to refer. Above all, I think the presentation of "Compensated Dating" is good for me. This group's poster used many photographs and illustrations. Listeners knew at a glance what presenters say and were attracted it. Also, it was great to put main point together in poster. When listeners were at a loss for question, presenters posed a question to us. Then both presenter and listener discussed easily and conversation expanded. I spent quality time last week's class. I want to give a presentation which listeners are attracted.

I thought that my presentation was good. I made eye contact with audience and use gestures from beginning to end. I also used presentation expressions many times. There are, however, bad points. I didn't do my parts of presentation smoothly. I also didn't inflect words and phrase. I have to prepare for the presentation and use expressions and gestures more times next time. I want to make the next presentation perfect.

I think all group are very excellent. My favorite presentation is "compensated dating". It is because the theme is unique. I was attraced their presentation. And, their poster is very cure! The best reason why I chosen this is their presentation is easy to understand. I also felt their opinions and solutions are clear. I will do my best to my presentation in order to more attract everyone.

In my opinion, all group presentation is fascinating. At first, I was surprised to look at their posters, whose design was very wonderful. But I was deeply impressed by compensated dating group. Because this presentation group members have each opinions. They explained their ideas about the matter to me. There are various thinking on compensated dating. The difference between male's ideas and female's ideas are so interesting for me. male's members think young girls is worse than older men, but we have the contrary opinions. If I get an opportunity, I want to discuss this topic with all the members of oral English.

I was an audience. In my opinion, all presentations were wonderful. All poster were colorful and completeness of the presentations were high. I felt pressure for next presentation. In these groups, I thought that the group of "smoking" is the best. My father is heavy smoker, so I was interested in the presentation. All member did eye contact and explanation was plain. Particularly, the story of the case of the cigarette was interesting. I thought that I wanted to change the case of the Japanese cigarette. We intended to try next presentation hard, too.

There were a lot of reflection points by this presentation. At first it means that you should have taken time for a poster more. I think that approximately two hours or some good things were completed for poster production. But I thought that it might be elaborate a little more. Then, my announcement part is great; it means that was incomprehensible. My part-time job was a part-time job called measures of the government to compensated dating. It was good to check a law, and to translate it into English, and to have announced it, but it was in a condition to only read it aloud and it was delicious and did not reach the person of audience. While the first understood it and put the number of times on the second, the third, I spoke English that had all different from the manuscript understand it, and what I was able to put in the gestures was good.

I did our presentation well. I got nervous that I would speak what I want to tell well, but it didn't matter. Members of presentation were active, so I'm glad. I think that all people who listened same theme don't feel same things. It is very interesting. And, I enjoyed a discussion with group one of member. Our theme is very difficult so members have different opinions. This, I'm going to consider this theme with other's opinion.

I'm very sorry. I'm late.
In this class, I surprised at the presentation.First, the contents is easy to understand. Simple English made me good. Second, there were many examples. I thought concrete date is very important because it makes me easy to understand and it can attract the audience. Third ,everyone have confidence. In the beginning, they were seriously, but Finally, their vice more loudly.
There was point to improve. They are reading the note and can't eye contact. So In my turn, I pay attention.
