Hi everyone,

In today's lesson, we reviewed gestures and learned about voice inflection; and we also have two rounds of discussion!

Voice Inflection:
In order to prepare you for your presentations, we spent some time on learning about and practicing voice inflection.  This is when we change our voice in order to emphasize certain words/expressions in our presentation.

There are three different types of inflection:
1.  stress
2.  stretch
3.  pause

When you use voice inflections, these types of words are usually inflected:
1.  numbers
2.  verbs
3.  adjectives / adverbs
4.  comparison nouns
5.  negative words

Homework:
  1. Blog Comment #10
  2. Journal Topic #8:  IE Core Experience
  3. Complete Student Profile (and include photos)
  4. "Like" BEA on Facebook

Remember to complete your profile in PEN.  If you make a mistake, you can download another copy after the blog question.

Blog Question #10: (last one)

What image do you have of Cambodia and Cambodians?  Why do you have this image (e.g. from a visit, from the media, your own idea, etc.)

("I don't have any image" is not an acceptable answer.)

*Write 8-10 sentences.
*Use capitalization, punctuation & spelling correctly.
*Submit by Tuesday, July 9 by 6:00pm.

Cambodia reminds me Angkor Wat and landmine. Cambodia is famous for Angkor Wat in all over the world. Sometimes I have seen TV program about Angkor Wat, so I associate the name of Cambodia with Angkor Wat. In addition, I know the serious issue of landmine in Cambodia. I have learned the Cambodian Civil War before. It was so cruel, and many landmines are still buried because of the war. I also learned the exsistence of organizations for removal them, and the fact of decresing the numbers. I do not have specific image of Cambodian. But I got the image which they are so cute after I saw the pictures on facebook page.

My image of Cambodia is the warm climate. Because the equator is near, I think it is warm throughtout the year. I have also the image that there is much rain, too. There are many people engaging in agriculture.I have watched that there were a lot of rice fields on TV documentary program. My image is that agriculture is active in Cambodia. I have a friendly image on cambodians. I watched that the people who lived with smile on that TV program. There is a unstable political history in Cambodia but I felt that the people live powerfully in their daily life.

I think of Cambodia as poor but kind country. I know that Cambodia is not rich country because I often see advertisement that make an appeal for donation. Also Cambodia don't have image of industry. There are many cotton-growing area. In addition, I was impressed by the news that Cambodia donated about 90000yen to Japan when the earthquake has occurred in east Japan. I was supprised and sorry for Cambodian because an amount of donated money is higher than average salary per year in poor area of Cambodia. Properly we should donate money to Cambodia even only 100yen. Accordingly Cambodian must be gentle.

I have some images of Kingdom of Cambodia and Cambodians. First of all, I have heard that there are dangerous areas in Cambodia. This image was made by a teacher who profess Southeast Asia and I saw the document about land mines there. Second, I think that Cambodians are lively. This image is also from the lecture of Southeast Asia. Finally, I saw the TV program showed that Cambodians live with elephants. I cannot imagine that there are elephants on the streets so I was surprised to know that. In summary, I do not know about Cambodia very much so I would like to learn it from now.

I have many images about Cambodia. First, Cambodia could become independent from France, but the political situation is instability. Cambodian always fight the danger of many landmines which buried in the war. Second, Angkor dynasty was once flourising. Angkor Wat was built by the king, and this remain's engravings are very delicate. That's why, this is the most popular World Heritage which many people want to go. Third is agriculture. Fresh-picked pepper is very famous, but it is easy to rot, so because it can't export, it is a special product to be able to taste only in Cambodia. I think Cambodia is the country which is worth visiting.

I do not know very much about Cambodia. I know only that there is the Angkor Wat in the country and the capital city is Phnom Penh. In my image, Cambodia is hot and not so rich. They had a tragedy under the rule of Pol Pot. I got these impressions from the media. However, I wonder the country is developing now. Also, I heard that G.U,’s cheap jeans are made in Cambodia. The Angkor Wat is one of the places I want to visit.

I have mainly two images of Cambodia. One is the issue of poverty. I know little the details about it, but I often see the collecting of contributions on the street for Cambodian children. In addition, I often watched special sections report on Cambodian children at the slums on TV. Therefore, I have such a image. The other is the Angkor Wat. I often see the pictures of Angkor Wat on TV, blogs and facebook. They are all mystic, and I want to visit there someday. In short, the issue of poverty and Angkor Wat are mainly my image of Cambodia.

For me, Cambodia is unknown and new world. I have not been there, but I have some images about Cambodia. First of all, there is great nature, I think. As Nicole said, there are big bugs, that's why I thought Cambodia has beautiful nature. Second, I really want to visit Angkor Wat someday. To just watch it, part of my mind would be changed with the world heritage. Finally I have an. Image that people are warm and kind. This is just an image and also my hope. Once if possible I want to go there and feel the air of Cambodia.

To hear the name of "Cambodia ", I have both positive and negative images. For example , I imagine the scene that people wearing camouflage enter the dangerous zone with mine directors. Because I have learned such the situation of Cambodia and teacher told me her experience there at the lecture of International Cooperation when I was in the junior college. I know people still live with the danger of mines. However, the image of Cambodians is very good. They are kind and bright even though they are poor. Moreover, there is a famous heritage called Angkor Wat. It is drawn on the national flag of Cambodia, so it gives me the strong image that Cambodians have such the refined remain.

I have two images of Cambodia. First of all, there is not so much rich country. My friend who had been to Cambodia said there is not rich country so a lot of people is poverty. Also, I heard there has the slum, especially children have to work since a little. Second image is that Cambodia is colorful country. When I watched TV, some women was wearing so colorful and gorgeous clothes. And I thought Cambodia is really colorful and warmly country. So my image of Cambodia is poverty but people are so warmly and there is cheerful country.

I have an image of Cambodia is as a "Developing country." I heard there are people who spend their life on a lake. They have own houses, but they have no money to pay for living on a land. That is why they have no choice to live on a lake. Also if the traveler comes, children will swim and beg the travelers to get a money with smily face. When I heard that, I was so surprised how different from our lives. In addition, children can go to elementary school but they can't go to high school because the poor problem. So I have an image of Cambodia is as a developing country and there has a serious poor problem which should be soluted as soon as possible.

Many people in the world go Cambodia to watch this, and I sometimes see Angkor Wat on TV such as travel problem. Second, I have the image that Cambodia is a developing country. I heard Cambodia through CM or advertisement to appeal contributions. Also, I saw a lot of children try to live cheerfully such as poor and warm climate surroundings. So, I think Cambodians are vigorously people.

I have some images of Cambodia. I learned about Cambodia in junior highscool's English text book. I learned that there are lots of world heritage sites in Cambodia. I remenber that there was some pictures of Angkor Wat, and I thought I want to go there. However I have some bad images of Cambodia. I know that here are still some land mines in Cambodia. It is a big problem and we have to solve this problem. However I don't know much about Cambodia. This time, I want to learn about Cambodia more and think about Cambodia's situation.

The image of Cambodia is where we go as international cooperation to build some school or communicate with children because some of my friend went as volunteer. I know that Cambodia is developing country, so the strongest image is that. Also I have image that Cambodians is always smile, and they look happy. I guess there are a lot of uncomfortable things, but I think that they have a positive attitude toward life. I have never been to Cambodia, but I’d like to go during university student.
