IE3 Fall 2013:  Lesson 4

10/17/2013

Hi everyone,

Unfortunately, our lesson was cancelled because of Wednesday's typhoon.  I'm sure glad that I didn't have to walk through the wind and rain at 7am!!

Interactions:
Because of the cancellation, there will be a few changes to our lesson next week.  We will have two listening interactions next week.

9:00 - 10:30:
group 1:  Hitomi, Yuri K., Haruka, Asami

11:00 - 12:30:
group 2:  Konomi, Shiori, Nao, Yuri W.

For the 9:00am group, make sure you arrive on time.  If you miss the first period, you will not be able to do your interaction during the second period.  I would like each group to have the same number of students and it would not be fair to the leaders in group 1 if they have to have 5-6 members in their group.

For both interactions, we will be in room 218.

Really English:
Some students have done a great job with their Really English units already!

However, some students are already behind in their units.  You need to complete the assigned number of units each week.  If you don't, you will lose 1% each week from your Really English grade.  The schedule for completing Really English units is in our syllabus.

Homework:
1.  Interactions preparation
2.  Listening Report #2 and #3
3.  Really English Units #4-#8
3.  Blog Comment #4

Blog Comment #4:

Tell me about your Really English progress.
  • How many units have you completed?
  • What was the most interesting unit you completed
  • Are you having any difficulties?  What are they?
  • Do you think these units are useful?

*Write 8-10 sentences.
*Use capitalization, punctuation & spelling correctly.
*Submit by Tuesday, October 22 by 6:00pm.

I have completed 10 units in my Really English program. The most interesting unit for me was the listening section because l am not good at listening so l am interested in the process how these units can improve my listening skill. There was also a step to record my voice for checking my pronunciation and that way very interesting, too. On the other hand, I had some difficulties on reading section. In my unit, there was a story about economic and there were many specialized words. I do not have any knowledge about economic so I couldn't pass the unit easily. I think these units are useful because I can study not only English itself but also can learn the knowledge of many other fields. I will do my best as much as I can.

I have completed 10 units. The most interesting unit for me was about shoping. However, every units are really interesting for me. I can not only listen but also see any pictures. Moreover, I can listen conversation. This is very helpful, I think. I completed only level1~3, because I couldn't got 80% on level3. So it is difficult for me to complete level4 units, and I want to complete it. I think these units are so useful.

I have finised 10 units. The most interesting unit was about Game Show. This is listening question, and I learned about the history of game shows. It was impressive for me bacause I like watching game show. Also, I have difficulty on reading section. The questions of them are tricky, and I need to read the questions and the answers more carefully than others. In the final test, I had to answer quickly in time, I made a lot of mistakes. I failed to pass twice in a one unit. Finally, I think these are useful because I can study new vocabularies. In addition, it is so helpful for improving english skills that go on the exercises every week.

I have completed 12 units. My most interesting unit was "Travel and transportation" of the listening section. I like travel and I went to Phuket in this summer, so I heard many English announcement in the airport. However, I couldn't almost catch those words because those were very fast for me. In this unit, I could learn about the words of airport, so I could enjoy listening. I had some difficulties on units of "Business" because those words were very difficult for me. I tried to do level 4, but it was too much beyond me. Level 2 to 3 are the best for me to listen and understand clearly. In November, I will take an exam of TOEIC, so I am sure that these units will be useful for it.

I have completed 15 units at the moment. The unit about the airport was the most interesting because it is useful for me at airport in foreign countries. I think that I can use some words and hear several phrases which I learned at the unit. I can not use my computer easily because the condition of network is bad at home. I am able to do Really English only at school so it is a difficulty for me. I think these units are useful to improve my English skills. There are three sections so I can
find the section which I am good at and poor at. Moreover, Really English gives me lessons that are best for my level.

I have completed 10 units. The most interesting unit was “body language.” It was about the differences in non-verbal communication among cultures. I could enjoy reading the text because the topic was that I have been interested in . I already know almost all facts in the article, but there were some facts I didn’t know. For example, it is rude to eat with left hand in Arab countries. I think that taking three steps in each unit is very effective way to study. In addition, it doesn’t take long time and I can learn at the level appropriate to me. Therefore I feel the Really English is useful and I want to improve my skills with it.

I have completed only 5 units in my Really English program. The most interesting unit for me was the airport and hotel. Because its topic is the most interesting for me. I think I want to work at airport or hotel so it's useful for me. I can't only level1-3 now.I'm not good at listening so I want to practice more. Tonight, I have to complete 10 units. I'll do the best.

I have done 6 units so far in Really English program. The most interesting unit is “body language”. This unit shows some animations people are doing gestures. I think such the way makes me easier to understand English. I am satisfied with whole units of Really English as well. Studying Listening, Grammar and Reading parts equally can raise my English ability. As for studying English in this program, I found out my weak points. Therefore I will make more efforts to have a change for the better through doing Really English program. I

I have finished 9 units. At passport control unit was the most interesting for me. I have been to America in this summer, and I had experienced passport control. I’d like to do this before I went to. I think the difficulties are to remember what pople say in the conversation, and from my memory, of course, I have to answer the question. I have poor memory, so I have to listen carefully. In this unit, the immigration officer’s voice was like strict, so I thought English of Really English represent like real life. These units are useful to feel the real English.

I had an mistake for accomplishing Really English. I thought I finished a unit when I did it first time, but I realized that I have to three part of lessons to finish one unit. Now I have just finished only five units, so I will try to do it more tonight. About the contents of Really English, some parts are difficult for me. For example, reading and grammar are complicated and I felt it is not exactly fit my ability. But I would like to try them, even though I may take much time on it to finish one unit.

I have completed 8 units in my Really English. I think "At the supermarket" is the most interest unit for me. In this summer, I went to the United States and saw the supermarket. That was really bigger than Japanese one. However I did not know the name of each corner, so it is useful for me to learn about it. Also, I have any difficulties in "Discribing a meal". I didn't know many vocabrary in this units and I sometimes made mistakes. I try to keep going and complete Really English.

Now I finished eight units. That is easy to understand for me to study about English because of specific commentary. It makes me understand easily why I did mistakes. Also I can study listening, vocabulary, grammar and reading on this site. So I don't need to use a lot of reference books. However, this is only for windows in computer. So I should come to school and take a time for really English. It is kind of troublesome. But I'm sure that I will be better English speaker after finished every units so I want to keep it and study hard.

I have completed three units. The most interesting section for me was "business plans". In my daily life I usually don't study much English words concerned to English. By doing Really English I was able to know new business English. Also the most part that I am thankful of is that this program made me recognize that I am very weak in business English. I have been thinking that in the future I want to do jobs using English so this discovery made me think more seriously about my future. In doing Really English I have big difficulties in hearing what the speaker is saying. There are some people that I can clearly hear what they are saying but most cases I can get what the speaker is saying. Through this program I want to train my years and become able to understand what the speaker is saying.

I have completed 1st path. The most interesting unit was Listening. Before getting started, I had a confidence to do it. However, it was a little bit difficult for me. It was not so difficult, but I felt I really focus on to listening British English. The most weak unit was Grammar. I knew I am weak at Grammar before starting it and I got weak points for the level check. Though, I think it is very useful to level up my English skills so I try hard to do it.

I have completed just test now, and I will complete 8 units today's night at least. However I am sure that lessons improve my English skills. It is because I have not had occasion that know my really English skills and practice it. I was a litle bit surprised because I thought I was worse to listening than reading. Through this result I decided to try to read more English books. this lesson has time regulations so I feel it is very difficult. I can't consentrate my attention for a long time and am confused. Using this lesson I want to develop.

I have completed 10 units. I was surprised with the program, I should apply more these kind technology for my studying. I thought it is very good for improving my listening skill. Also there are some words and expressions that I didn't know, so it helps me a lot. I had some wrong answers that I didn't listen carefully. When I checked the comments, I realized that I did understood the listening, but I got wrong answers. I have to listen more minutelly. I will be careful for these points while I proceed the program.
