IE3 Core Thursday: Lesson 11

6/18/2015

Hi everyone,

After next week, we will have completed all the requirements for the IE3 Core course, so we'll be able to have a few different types of lessons.

Book Report Review
After speed discussion, we complete three activities to help you improve writing a book report. For our first activity, we reviewed MLA referencing and then you complete the referencing for your own book report.

Next, we analyzed the structure of a sample book report answer. Remember that the most important point about writing a good essay answer is to have logical structure with reasons and examples to support your opinions.

Finally, we looked at some expressions you can use for writing about your literary terms. You then had a chance to discuss the literary terms in your own book with your partners.

Discussions:
All group leaders did an excellent job in today's discussions. They were over 20 minutes each! This is because all groups have very strong conversational style. I was very happy to see more member to member interactions in the discussions. Great work!

Homework:
1.  Blog Comment #10
2.
Discussion Preparation
3.  Book Report #2

In this semester, I could get the skill to speak English on reflex.
Thanks to the 2-minute-speaking, I could speak without much resistance.
Moreover, as we make discussions numerous times, we could keep on speaking English much longer than the beginning of the semester.
In addition, I could become confident when I speak.
This is not only the time which I speak in English but every time.
Making a presentation in front of classmates made me nervous.
However, after overcoming it, I realized I could be strong.
Amazingly, during my sleeping, I sometimes dream a dream that I speak in English.
Put it all together, I could get a skill to speak better than IE2.
I really appreciate this class.

I think my discussion skills have improved. In IE Core 2, I didn't learn about the way of discussion in detail. For example, they are Anglo Saxon conversation style, replying, and asking. If I am not a discussion leader, I can join the discussion positively and learn the skills. I think the most important thing is that I can forget about the time. Times fly away when I am discussing. It is the biggest improvement for me.
I feel the speaking skill have been the most useful that I have learned in this semester. This is because I have a lot of chances to speak every classmates in the class such as speedy discussion in the beginning of the class. It helps me to think of the expression and the god way of telling my partner. To sum up, I am sure my English skill have improved in this semester.

I think my discussion skill is improved. I think I can talk about the news without reading. Moreover, I understand what to do next in the discussion. It means I can use transition words than before. At first, when I was freshman in this school, I used the only word like "My opinion". However, I am able to use "
Next move on to-" now.I think my English skill is improved even when I did not prepare. The beginning of the class, we discuss about some topic that we are not be told before. I think it will be the practice of the interview in English.

I thought that my English conversation’s skill improved at tow points. The first point is Anglo Saxon conversation style. In IE2, I remembered all statement of newspaper’s discussion, so I sometimes forgot it and couldn’t talk about it. Moreover, I couldn’t talk over my script. However, in this semester, I can talk about something over my script by using Anglo Saxon conversation style. At First, I couldn’t do Anglo Saxon conversation style, but I got used to this style. Even though I couldn’t get into other conversation, now I can do it smoothly. The second point is gesture. I learned various gestures, so I thought that gestures made my conversation’s express spread. Of course, my conversation’s skill is not perfect, but I feel my growth.

I think my discussion skill has improved for this semester. There are two reasons to support what I said.
First, the speed discussion is so effective for me. I could not easily utter English words which I want to say until this semester had started. However, I could be used to speaking English so that I did the speed discussion for 2 minutes.
Second, I learned discussion style: Anglo-Saxson Style. I had hesitated to jump in discussion until I knew this style, but I have been positive and active for discussion now through Anglo-Saxson Style.
Thus I think my discussion skil has improved more than before. However, I have still made many mistakes in discussion, so I want to improve my discussion skill more and more

I think that my discussion skill has improved compared t IEⅡ. In my previous class, I didn't talk with my classmates aggressively while the disscussion time. However, now I could do that. Whenever I have a opinion or want to speak, I try to talk about that. Speed discussion is good for me. We have to talk in English in turn with my partner, so I feel my English speaking skill have been improving. However, I could not tell other people what I want to say in English clearly. So I have to expand my vocabulary. And I want to use many expression in a discussion.

I bekieve my discussion skill is becoming better. However I feel that I am not ashamed of having eyecontact and speaking in front of people.
The biggest thing I learned in IE3 is the behavior when I listen to discussion leader. In IE2 and IE., I did not speak so much, but now, I speak more than before. That is the progress I think.
I have problems in pronunciation now. I have to practice speaking English to be better at speaking English. Moreover, I have to think of how to make foreign people understood my English.

I could improve my discussion skill. Before I had this semester, I couldn't discuss for minutes. However, now I can do though I can't know how long I was talking. It is great improvement I think. When I can do it, I learn form other members' idea more than before because of deep long discussion. Thanks for quick discussion which is done by partner, to think of this semester, I can quickly think of sentence in English. It is helpful for speaking English and learning English. Therefore, I can make it well when I have an opportunity to talk with people who are from English country.

Discussion skill in the most useful for me. I didn't have much chances in IE1 and IE2. Speaking English is very difficult for me, but through this class, I could learn how to discuss with people. Before this semester, I couldn't cut into discission. It as very difficult for me to find the chance I can say my opinion. However, in this class, I had many discussions and I come to be able to say what I want to. To improve my speaking skills, discussion skill is very good. I want to speak more and more and become a good English speaker.

Comapred with IE2, I think my discussion skill becomes better. Before taking this class, I couldn't have a conversation in English well. But now, I can carry on a conversation better in English. Actually, we often do disccusion more than 20 minutes. I think that speed disccusion is useful for me to improve English skill. I can learn new vocabulary from the topic and word which concerned with topic. By having a small talking with my friends, I can get more opportunities to speak in English. So, I try to talk more in English at IE class.

Compared to IE Core 2, my discussion skill and speaking skill were improved. I was not good at saying my opinion before this class. Therefore, I just often heard my colleagues' opinions. However, through Anglo-Saxons way, I gradually came to be able to say my opinion. In addition, talking in English with my friends at the start of the class made my conversation skill better. It was very useful for me because I didn't good at speaking before. I am very happy to be able to improve my discussion and speaking skills in this IE Core3 classes. I want to use what I learned in this semester for next semester's classes.

I strongly think I could enhance my discussion skill in this semester. Because, most discussions in IE1 or 2 are not eager and talkative. We were too modest and shy to discuss about topic. The mind to do discuss can't compare to IE3's discussion. I really enjoy it now and I believe it helps me to improve my discussion skill in many ways. The most useful skill I think is that explaining about what I would like to say and important point. We learned the way to summarize and it is also help us to explain them. Now I come to say what I want to say with more easy than before. This discussion experience will help me someday.

My discussion skill has definitely been improving throughout this semester in some ways. One of the significant changes is I can response to others’ opinion quickly. In the previous IE class, I focused just on speaking or on say reflection as a response and I did not care about quickness of response. But in this semester, the speed discussion let me acquire the skill and now I concentrate on giving feedback as fast as I can. Also, Anglo Saxon discussion style also contributes for me to improve my skill in discussions. I used to hesitate interrupting someone’s talking before this semester but I realized that I may do that during the discussion. As a result I think discussion had been more intense than ever. Of course, the skill of showing interest and body languages brought me to the further level in discussion.

I think my discussion skills has improved. There are two reasons. The first reason is that I could ask follow-up questions during discussions. The second reason is that I could use transitions like "Let's move on to~." Last semester, I also had a fulfill discussions but we didn't have member and member discussions. I think it's important to have that because discussions is sharing own ideas to others. If there is a member and member discussions, we can have orthdox discussions. I learned many things in this semester. I think discussions improved me in many ways. If I have a chance to do discussions after IE III, I want to use what I've learned in this class.

Compared to IE2, my discussion skill has improved. There are two reason why I think so. First, I could talk activery in the discussion. I am shy, so I was not good at give my opinion. However, thanks to speed discussion, I got used to the situation which I have to say something. Second, I could understand the way to proceed discussion smoothly when I am discussion leader. I learned that it is effective to use gesture and transition words. In future, I may have a lot of opportunity to do discussion in the university or company. So, I hope that I can use these skill which I learned in IE3 class.

I think I could improve my discussion skills more than last semester. In last semester, I rarely thought about my discussion style except eye contact. I think only how to continue to talk about one topic. In this class, however, Nicole told us some points in discussion. I have not heard about Anglo-Saxon Style, and some useful phrases we can use in discussion. Thanks to that, I feel more easy and enjoyable about English discussion. I learn not how to continue to talk but how to comunicate deeply with other members. It will be useful in my life out of class.
