Hi everyone,

We have just five more weeks left of our course after today's lesson, which means the last major assignment will be your book report! From July, our classes will be a little less busy.

Presentations:
Overall, I was very impressed with all of your presentations. You made a great effort to include graphs in your presentations, and effectively explained them to the audience. I also liked how your slides were clear and used pictures and animation effectively.

Two points I noticed deal with body language.
  1. When you have a presentation, it's a good idea to keep your notes on a table or podium. In this way, your hands are free for gestures.
  2. When you make eye contact, remember to include all of your audience. At times, a few of you look to only one side of the audience or "talked" to the screen.
In next week's lesson, we'll review how to prepare your book report, especially how to organize your ideas for your essay questions.

Homework:
  1. Blog Comment #9
  2. Discussion Preparation
  3. Journal Topic #8: rainy season
  4. Finish reading your graded reason (bring to class next week)

Blog Question #9:

Give your opinion on the presentation that you liked the best. Give two reasons why you liked it, and give support for each reason (e.g. explanation, example, etc.)

  • Write 8-10 sentences.
  • Use capitalization, punctuation & spelling correctly.
  • Submit by Wednesday, June 17 10 by 6:00pm

I like the presentation about overworking best.
One reason for this is because the presenters never read their scripts. They all memorized the scripts. In addition, they made a presentation making eye contacts with us.
Second reason is because I was very interested in overworking. I myself do my part-time job as a cram school teacher, but this job often makes me overwork. I am very, very tired when I do the job. I became to think that I have to be careful of my working hour by listening this presentation.
I think we could learn a lot of important things by making or listening the presentations. It became very valuable experience for me.

I thought the group of alcoholic addiction is the best.
Firstly, the test of tolerance against alcohol was very nice idea. To do like this presentation attracts the attention of the spectators, so especially, this topic was impressed me. I was very surprised it, because I had no idea that I did presentation of participation form. I knew that they figured out their presentation.
Secondly, this topic was close to us, so it was worth considering among young people. To drink is not bad action and sometimes we are needed, but I learned that drinking too much was too bad habit from this presentation. Moreover, I should know my own tolerance against it.
I could consider many important issues by making and listening to presentations, so I had valuable time on the last class.

I think the presentation about the death from overworking is the best. There are three reasons. First, the presenters memorized the script completely. So they could have eye contacts to the audiences. It made me comfortable when I heard the presentation.
Second, their gestures is very good. Therefore I could understand the content of their presentation.
Third, the slides are so clearly because there are moderately graphs and photos in them. Thus I was never bored on this presentation.
I want to make use of the way of this group's presentation at next presentation.

In my opinion, the topic of alcoholism is the best. There are two reasons. Firstly, they focused on not only a alcoholism but also an underage drinking. The underage drinking is strongly connected to our life. So this topic is very effective for us. Secondly, their test for a tolerance against an alcohol. This test is also effective because it allows them to attract the interests of everyone. If there is a chance to do presentation next, I would like to use this way.

I like the presentation about death from overworking. First, all presenters didn't look at script. They must have practiced many times. Because they remember what they say, there are many gestures and eye contacts. I could enjoy their presentation. Second, the topic was interesting for me. I think Japanese work too hard. I was surprised at the gap between Europe and Japan. Everyone don't want to die because of overworking, so we have to find good solusions as soon as possible.

I like the presentation of the alcholic addiction the best. Firstly, they use many benefit data. For example, symptoms, dangers, and kind of illnesses. Some of them are new for me. I learned important facts from their data. Second, it was very good and useful for me to do diagnosis of alcholic. They did not only give audience information but also make enjoyable. I could know how much I can drink and enjoy their presentation. I want to do my next presentation like them.

The presentation about death from overworking is the best for me. This is because this group's members all memorize the manuscript. So they could use eye contact and body language. I was impresssed by this presentation. In addition, they use the slide effectively. The slide was simple and easy to understand. They summarized main point on the slide. Therefore, audience could understand what they want to tell us.

I liked the presentation about alcoholic addiction the best. First of all the main reason is that I could get involved with the presentation. Other presentations including us were kind of one-way presentation, I mean just presenters gave us serious problems getting serious today and offered some solutions to tackle them. By contrast, this group not only gave us a normal presentation but also let the audience take a test about alcohol tolerance. I think this activity made the presentation impressive and also made us enjoyable. Secondly, I think alcoholic problem was one of the problems that college students have to face. Many students, especially freshmen, have several bottles of alcohol (though this might be exaggeration) in a welcoming party of a club and some of them even become unconscious what they did afterward. This is of course an unacceptable incident and they have to have responsibility for behaviors. This presentation gave us opportunities to look back our ever behaviors about alcohol and to realize whether or not I can drink alcohol (and I MUST NOT do). Therefore, this presentation was the best for me.

I like the presentation about death from overworking. The first reason is that they memorized the script. Because they memorized, they could use hand gestures and I could understand that they worked hard. The second reason is that their PowerPoint was great. They used graphs and the words were easy to understand. I can feel that they worked hard for the presentation. If I have a chance again, I want to do presentation like them. I learned many things from them.

I like the presentation about alcoholic addiction. There are two reasons why I like it. First, the presenters sent a questionnaire to us, and we replied it, and we could know whether we can hold their liquor or not drink. It caught my attention, and I was getting interested in the presentation. Then, other reasons was topic was interesting, and I was interested in alcoholic addiction. Sometimes, I hear the news college students died because of alcohol, so I am worry about it, and want to know what the main reason is and its solution. The presenters shows us them, so I chose this group was the best.

I think that the presentation which talks about death from over working is the best. First, this problem is familiar with me. At the shop which I work, there are six members of staff who make cake. The season of winter is in a busy time for cake shop. More than 500 guests come at this shop on Christmas day. So, they have to make so many cakes. And, they make them from am2:00 to pm10:00. It looks so hard It is possible for them to break down from exhaustion. I worry about them. Second, all presenters memorized their script. They can talk with using their hand freely. I could understand easily.

All around, I feel that all of the students could make good presentations.
Especially, the group that made a presentation about alcoholic addiction did the best.
All groups except them did not test for us, and due to the test, they could generate our interest.
In addition, they wrote sources of information.
We could trust their information thanks for writing.
Moreover, they could make eye-contacts effectively.
After listening to their presentation, I felt that I also have to make eye-contact, and speak in a loud voice in order to avoid making uninviting presentation.
After all, I felt that all we should do on our presentations is fascinating the audience.

Tge presentation which I liked the best was Hikikomori one. This is because This topic was the most interesting one. Hikikomori is social issue I think. One more reason why I choose this presentation is I wanted to know the solution of Hikikomori. Hikikomori was not simple issue. The gesture was great. The presenter's voice was loud. Therefore, it was easy to understand what they say.
