Hi everyone,

It was really great to meet all of you today. You are a talkative group! I'm really looking forward to our lessons this semester.

Syllabus and Schedule:
We had a short introduction activity and you got to get to know each other. We then went looked at the syllabus and our course schedule. We have a lot of assignments to do this semester, so if you have any difficulties, make sure you let me know so that I can help you.

Opinion Giving:
We had a short activity to help you learn some expressions for asking for and giving your opinion. Make sure to support your opinion with a reason and/or example.

We also learned expressions for agreeing and disagreeing with opinions. The expression "Tell me about it!" is a slang expression, and it is used to show strong agreement.

Discussion Worksheet:
We learned how to complete a discussion worksheet. You will have to download the worksheet and complete it before your discussion. In the Discussion Skills section, you can find the slide presentation from our lesson "How to Complete your Worksheet". There are also links to different English language newspaper sites in the Useful Links section.

Field Trip:
We'll be going on a theater field trip  to see the musical production of The Secret Garden. Some of you will go on Thursday, May 15 and other on Friday, May 15. I will reserve the tickets for us, so make sure to bring 2500 for your ticket to next week's class. I'll collect the money and pay for the tickets.

Homework:
  1. Journal entry #1: your spring break
  2. Choose a graded reader and bring it to class.
  3. Discussions (see schedule)
  4. Blog Posting #1
  5. Read The Secret Garden (chapters 1-8)

Enjoy your weekend!

Blog Question #1:

Tell me about your spring break.

* Write 8-10 sentences.
* Use capital letters, punctuation and spelling correctly.
* Submit by Wednesday, April 15 by 6:00pm.

I guess that people say I spent wasted life because it seemed that people say me as only doing work part-time too much and going to sleep.
But I could enjoy my own spring vacation!
I went to many live concerts and went to Tokyo Disney Resort with my friends who i love very much.
At first, I could see a dancer who I love in Tokyo Disney Sea.
I made a promise to go to see ’fashionable easter’ with a friend to see a dancer.
Next, as I wrote, I enjoyed to go to see live concerts!
I went with friends or my elders of my club almost all the concerts.
I could spend absolutely happy spring vacation!

It was amazing vacation for me! I spent most of the spring vacation on club activity. I'm a mamber of AIESEC which is NPO organized by students all over the world. In this organization, I support the global internship so I met many foreigner. I went to air port to pick a student from Kenia up, held cooking party with a Filipino and an Argentine, and went to with them. I'm not good at speaking English but I enjoyed talking with them. They were very kind and listened to my poor English carefully. I learned that communication is not dificult if I have intention to tell what I think or feel. I'm very happy to have many new friends in this break!

I went to Kyoto with my mother during spring break. My favorite subject is Japanese history and I like to visit temples and shrines, so I made a plan to go to Kyoto. Firstly, I thought that we should took part in the tour of travel agencies, but I didn't choose it, because I wanted to make my own schedule. The temples which I have ever visited were composed of the plans by travel agencies,, so I decided to go to the temples which I have never visited. I went to six temples: Konkaikoumyouji, Nanzenji, Zenrinji, Kenninji, Konchiin, and Kouzanji. Especially, Kouzanji was very nice for me. Kouzanji’s garden was in good taste. I think that to look to Japanese-style gardens is the true joy of visiting temples, so Kouzanji’s garden has captured my fancy. I went to Kyoto on 20th March, so cherry blossoms were not bloomed. If you go there in the cherry blossom season, you can enjoy Kyoto all the more. I want to go there next break again.

I went to New Zealand for one month during the spring vacation. I did homestay and stay with a host mother, Sally, and roommate from Taiwan. Sally, who immigrated from England, made us English style dinner, including English pudding, sliced lamb with gravy source and so on. I loved it! Also, there was the Chinese New Year while I was staying, so my Taiwanese roommate made us dumpling, which was traditional Taiwanese food on the special occasion. It was amazingly delicious! In addition, I went to Waiheke Island with my friends for two days, which was one of the famous beaches. On the first day, we joined bus tour with a guide, who was a kind man, because he spoke rather slowly so that we foreigners could understand easily. On the second day, we visited a vineyard. I tried a red wine for taste, though it was not good for me… I also tried a salad with fruits of olive. I found a fruit of olive was sour unlike olive oil.
I wanted to tell you more story about New Zealand, but I don’t think there is an enough space. Anyway, I can say it was an absolutely great time and I wish I could go back then.

My spring break was nice!
First, I went to Hakone for enjoying hot springs with my friends in February. Hakone was so cold, but great hot springs made us warm and happy.
Secondly, I went to Karuizawa for skiing with my family. I am not very good at skiing, but I want to be able to ski better, so I practiced hard.
Finally,I love musicals, and I watched many DVDs of musicals. They were all great, but the best musical was "Jesus Christ Superstar". The performance of actors of this musical was so powerful, and their fantastic singing voice moved me! I want many people to watch this great musical.
I spent happy spring vacation!

I've got a good spring vacation in previous semester. I'd been to the stadium to watch a soccer game with my friend. The game was boring and not good but I enjoyed an atmosphere. After the game, we went to a cafe and speak about football. My friend and I really love football. Therefore, we've got an enjoyable conversation. And I'd left my part-time job because I'd like to start another one. Because of it, I've not got enough money. I'll start new part-time job which is in public house this month.

Most time of my spring vacation, I spend on doing part time jobs. During two months, I earned much money. I'm working at Pizza-la as a delivery staff. This is so easy because I only have to drive a motorbike and deliver pizza to customer.
Then, I went to go snowboarding five times. It was so fun for me. I did not only slide straight on the snow, but also turn or jump. In the next season, I would like to master the skills such as jump or turn.
As a whole, my spring break was great for me.

I had busy spring vacation. I spent most of my time doing part-time job. I'm working at real-estate. I worked for 8 hours a day almost every day during spring vacation. My job at real-estate is, I go to the house with the customer and show their room. Also I make a tons of data to show it to the customer. I got high payment during my spring vacation.
Besides, part-time job, I went to Tokyo-sky tree with my friends from high school. We went to the top but the weather was cloudy so we couldn't see the beautiful view. However, I still enjoyed my time with them.

My spring break was so good for me. In my spring break, I went to Osaka and Kyoto with my friend. There are two reasons for our trip. First, I and she wanted to watch a baseball game of high school students held in Koushien. Their games were so excited for me. Another reason is to go to the house of my friend who lives in Kyoto. I haven't seen her for a long time, so I was very happy when I saw her. On the other hand, I spent my spring break doing not only enjoyable things but also part-time job. Thus, I could earn much money. As I said, my spring break was so great for me.

My spring break

The most biggest event in my spring break is going to Taipei. Actually, we missed the train. It was my first time. At first I didn't think deeply about it. However, I came to feel impatient. In conclusion, I was refugee in airport and stayed about 24hours. Then I could come back to Japan. This experience was tragedy but I think it would have extraordinary influence on my characteristic.

I snowboarded twice in this spring break. It was my first time to do it, though I could ski. At first, I thought there was no difference between skiing and snowboarding. However, it was wrong. When people wear ski, they can walk like walking without it, but when they wear snowboard, they can't. For me, it was the most difficult to get off the lift. While snowbarding was often dangerous, I could really enjoy. I absolutely want to snowboard next season.

I had a lot of club activity in my spring vacation. Because there was a big competition at the end of March. It was hard time for me, but I got a lot of good experience in the competition. Before club activity become busy, I went Kusatsu with my friends. I enjoyed hot spring and hot spring resort at there. In next year, my spring vacation may also busy because of club activity, but I want to enjoy my vacation.
