IE3W Lesson 3: Body Paragraphs

10/14/2015

Hi everyone,

I can't believe we're already starting our essay outlines! Time sure does fly!

Body Paragraphs:
We learned about the structure of the body paragraphs.  Similar to the introduction, you need to use funnel introduction:  organizing your ideas from general to specific.

There are four types of details you can use in your essay:  (1)  facts; (2) descriptions; (3) statistics; and (4) expert opinions.

Introductions:  First drafts
I returned the first drafts of your introductions in class.  We went through the different types of comments on your drafts:  purple comments for structure/content and orange comments for grammar.  You also received Correction Symbols.  I will use correction symbols to give you hints about the errors you make in your writing.

Sending your Documents to my Email:
When you send a file to me, please use the following pattern in your subject line:

IE3W-task-given name
(e.g. IE3W-Outline-Hideaki)

Please also include your name and task in the name of your MS Word file (e.g. IE3W-Outline-Hideki).

Homework:
1.  Outline: email by Monday, October 19 before 12 noon
  • I will returned your outline by email with my comments by Oct. 19 by 6:00pm. Print it out and bring it to our lesson on Wednesday.
2.  Blog Comment #3

For your outline, remember to download the Classification outline Template from the IE3 Writing Lesson Materials section.

Blog Question #3:

Review the comments from your introduction.  What are the three most important points you need to remember before you write your body paragraphs?
  • Write 8-10 sentences.
  • Use capitalization, punctuation & spelling correctly.
  • Submit by Tuesday, October 20 by 6:00pm.

I think the three most important things to remember before starting to write body paragraphs are funnel introduction, constitution of body paragraph and types of details. Firsty, I should use funnel introduction in body paragraphs. It's important to gradually focus on information from general to specific so that readers can easily grasp what writer want to explain. Secondly, it will be easy to write body paragraphs if I know constitution of it. Body paragraph is constituted of topic sentence, supporting sentence and concluding sentence. Body paragraphs written in this constitution is easier to understand. Thirdly, I should remember the types of details to write good body paragraphs. Types of details are fact, statistic, expert opinion and description. Those make body paragraphs more informative.

I think the three most important things to remember before starting to write body paragraphs are the followings. Firstly, I must not use 1st and 2nd person in essay writing. Acutually, I tended to use 1st and 2nd person in essay, so I have a difficulty in writing essay without those. To write good body paragraphs, I'll try not to use 1st and 2nd person in body paragraphs. Secondly, I should use correct format and justify margins. Because I am not good at using computer, I want to acuire a skill of Word at this time.
Thirdly, I need more specific information about my topics. For example, because my topic is about music festivals, I should write about famous bands who played at music festivals. I will write my body paragraphs keeping these points in mind.

I think the three most important points to remember before writing body paragraphs are not to use a first and second person, not to use a presentation English, and I also have to give general information about each World Cups. For the first one, I knew that I cannot use I, but I didn't know that I can't use the word you too. This is a hard thing for me because I am not use to writing a essays without my opinions. By learning this at this class was a good thing for me. For the second one, I often use presentation English in my essays unnoticebly, so I have to always keep in mind that I can't use it. For the last one, I didn't give much information about each World Cup. Instead, I gave information about World Cup in general. I think I wasn't understanding the point of writing the introduction.

The three most important points I think I need to remember before writing my body paragraphs is to use a right tense, use the best words for each sentences, and to make sure I write the information I really need to make it not too long. When I wrote my introduction, I used wrong tense in some of my sentences. If I write them down in the wrong tense, the reader might mistaken the information, or I won't be able to tell the readers what I really want to say. For using the best words in each sentences, I thought the words correction Nicole gave me was a lot stylish then the ones I wrote. From that, I thought that I have to be more careful with the words I use in each sentences, because it will effect how stylish and cool the essay will be. Finally, only writing information you really need is an important thing. I tend to write things long and not briefly, so if I do that in this essay too, the readers will get bored. It will also make it harder for the readers to understand about what I want to say, so I want to be careful about them.

For me, the most important points I need to remember before writing my body paragraphs are these three; taking a second look, adding specific details and following rules of writing. Since I tend to forget to look my essay again before turning it in, I often make mistakes in grammar. That's why my drafts are often returned with red comments. Also, I tend to forget to add specific information. I forgot writing about how animations have developed so rapidly this time. Finally, I realized I need to follow rules of writing. In fact, I didn't write more than 125 words and use 2.0 spacing, so my body paragraphs didn't look good. I'll try to improve these three points by next time. Writing essay is difficult, but I'll do the best.

I think that how much you attract the reader could be the most important point for the introduction. If you write something boring from the start, no one may feel to read it. Secondly, you should be really simple to tell the reader what you want to say. Complicated details may make the reader unconfortable or unfamilier to the topic. The other thing is that you need to keep the rule for the structure of writing. General idea to specific is always easier to read and understand. Moreover, you should not forget the order from hook statement, general idea thesis statement. This is what i learned from my previous introduction practice.

I think the three important points that you need to remember when writing an introduction is that you have to have an topic sentence that will make the person what to read it more. You also have to have the sentence that are needed, for example, supporting sentence and so on. I usually forget to write those sentences so I'd like to be careful. I sometime make a grammar mistake so I'd like to be careful when I write this time. I think it's also important to write exactly what you want to tell the reader. Sometimes when I write, I have trouble how to express exactly what I want to. so I'd like to improve my skills of that. I will do my best.

The three most important points are avoiding to use first and second person, writing specific general information and eschewing to put meaningless words or sentences. Firstly, I tend to use first and second person, so I should pay attention not to do that. Secondly, you must write general information related to your topic specifically. My topic was about soccer, but I wrote about soccer fan in my general statement in my introduction. I wrote my general information a bit different way. So, I should pay attention to sentence connection not to go in the wrong direction. Finally, I should delete needless sentences. I received correction of my introduction, then I realized that there are a lot of sentences which are very useless and needless. Therefore, I should look through the whole paragraph not to put meaningless sentences and to eliminate meaningless words and sentences.

First, I think one of the three most important points is to know what exactly I want to write. In my introduction, my thesis statement should have explain what for students choose the country for their vacation. However, I wrote comparison statement. This is classification essay so I have to write to show three subtopics. It was difficult but I could clarify what I should write while I was writing the outline. So I have to remember not to forget what I want to write.
Second, to make a statement simple. In my introduction, I used "it is...that~". I used this form to make it more understandable and stronger. However my essay was corrected not to use it. And I realized the new one was more simple and understandable. So I have to remember how to make my essay more understandable with simple forms.
And the last is to spare enough time to write. If I had spare more time, I might have write better introduction and ogt higher points. In fact, I could not find out how to send it as a MS document. So I have to remember to spare enough time to write an essay.
These are the three things that I think I have to remember when I write an essay.

I think the three most important things when writing your body paragraphs are to understand your topic, use second person, and to be specific about your topic. If you don't understand your topic, it'll make things difficult for you, and also the reader to understand what you're talking about. I also think this connects to the part about writing specifically. It's easy to search up your topic and rewrite the sentence in your own word, but that doesn't mean that you're truly understanding your topic. If you can't explain your topic in your own words, then I don't think there's a point in writing an essay. The last one, to use second person is quite simple. I tend to use first person, but it was easy for me to fix it. If I be careful about these three points, then I think the quality of my essay would get better.

There are the most important points I need to remember before I write my body paragraph. First is to write sentences in correct grammar. I heedlessly use an article in some way. Also I don’t understand well the third person singular. Grammar is the most basic point when writing sentences. I should always take care to use an appropriate article. Second is to demonstrate much information. I should take examples so that readers can gain a better understanding of my essay. Third is not to miss the point. By adjusting the focus in the essay, I can write the essay logically.

I think the three important points are that making the right structure, giving general information and understanding own topic and main idea. Firstly, if you don't use the tunnel structure in body paragraph, the story may bicomes skipping. It is important to use the tunnel style for telling what you want to say clearly. Secondary, giving correct and geneal information is important not only body paragraph. In this conect, the correct references are inportant. And the last is understanding my topic. In addition, to understand the relevance of subtopics is neccesary. If you don't it, you can't make the equal 3 body paragraphs.

The three important things are paying attention to format, avoiding to use first&second person and write more deeper ideas. Firstly, I have to write in the right format. In the introduction, because of my wrong impression and my helpless computer skills, I mistook how I should write. I think writing essays in the right format is the most basic and important thing. Secondly, I must be aware of not using the first&second person. I already knew that this is my vice, so I should have written it with more patience. Lastly, in the body paragraph, I would like to write my essay within deeper ideas. From the outline you sent me back with marks, I knew that it would be much interesting if I write particularly. These are the three I must remember.

Before writing my paragraph there were three things I had to be careful about. First, I had to understand my three-subtopics and what I want to write about . I had struggle writing my outline. So it was very important for me to search about my subtopics and understand it. Second, is to give an accurate information about my subtopics. I searched many information from the Internet to get the best and interesting details. Third, is to check carefully if I write my sentences correctly. I think that it is important so that the readers could easily understand what I want to tell.

I think the three most important things to remember before starting to write body paragraphs are using appropriate words, using a right tense and the constitution of the paragraphs.
First, when I wrote my essay, I didn't use appropriate words and used wrong tense. I thought it might lead to misunderstanding and I couldn't tell the readers my opinion correctly. Second, my constitution of the paragraph is not good. If I can write my essay with good constitution, the readers can understand my essay effectively.

I think three most important things I need to remember are the following. Firstly, I need not to get off what I really want to say. To do so, I should chose details which is suitest to my supporting sentence. Secondly, it is important to use funnel essay structure. It can make an essay more clear. Lastly, it is also important not to use first and second person. I need to write my essay objectively. I will try to write my body paragraph keeping three important things in my mind.

The three important points to remeber before writing my body paragraphs is that avoiding writing someting too general, using a right tense, using English articles properly. First, I think when readers are reading my essay, they want to learn something new from my essay. If I write something too common, they will get bored and lose interest. To prevent readers from getting bored in my essay, I will always need to remember that I am writing this essay for my readers. Also, using a right tense is essential for a good essay. Using a wrong tense makes readers confused. They might misunderstand what I want to convey. Finally, using appropriate English articles is the thing I need to focus on. In Japanese language, we do not have strict rules about articles, so I often forget to add articles, or use wrong one. For example, I often miswrite "the" instead of "a/an". When I write my body paragraphs, I need to remember these 3 things to make a better essay.

I think the three most important points to remember before writing body paragraphs are not to use first and second person, to use the best words and to understand my topic clearly. Firstly, I sometime use first and second person in essay but it's no good, so I have to be careful about it. Secondly, I have to use the best words. I need to be careful to choose every single word to make readers understand what I really want to say. Thirdly, I have to understand my topic clearly. If I don't understand my topic, the readers can't understand either. Also if I do not understand it, it's going to be boring essay. I'm not sure if I can write good body paragraphs or not but I'll try keeping these three important things in my mind.

I think the three most important points when I write my body paragraphs are to make sure the information is correct, to pay attention for it not to be a compare-contrast essay and to be aware not to change the point I talk about. First, I should distinguish right information from wrong information when I write details like quotes or statistics. This is because the information on the web site is not always true. Second, I'll have to check over again whether I write the correct way of a classification essay. I had to change my three subtopics before I wrote my essay outline, so I'll make sure of this point more carefully. Lastly, I'll be conscious of consistency of my body paragraphs. Since I often change the subject when I talk with someone, I must be careful not to change it in writing. I'll try to write the best essay I've ever written.
