Hi everyone,

We had another busy Wednesday lesson, but there's just one more week to go and then we're finished our course!

Peer Editing Discussions:
In the first part of our lesson, you discussed your peer editing activities with your partner.  When you edit/revise your conclusion, you can use your partner's comments.  Also, check corrections I've made in your essay.  You may have made the same errors in your conclusion.

Conferences:
For the remaining class time, everyone got a chance to meet with me to ask me questions about their first drafts.  Fortunately, there was enough time to talk with everyone!

Next Week's Lesson:
In next week's lesson, I return your tests, peer editing tasks and final drafts of your persuasion essay. After, we'll have a fun writing lesson on texting in English.

Homework:
  1. Blog Comment #10
  2. Copy ALL of your drafts (Introduction, Body Paragraphs, First Draft, Bibliography) and give to me next week.
  3. Revise/edit your final draft
  • email by Monday, July 20 before 12noon to ntakeda.aogaku@yahoo.com

Blog Question #10: (last one)

  1. What was the most challenging part of our course?
  2. What was the most beneficial part of our course?
  3. Do you think you're prepared for Academic Writing? Why or why not?

*Write 8-10 sentences.
*Use capitalization, punctuation & spelling correctly.
*Submit by Tuesday, July 21 by 6:00pm.

The most challenging part was writing an introduction and outline. As for the introduction, it was hard to think about interesting hook statements. As for the outline, I had many things to write so it is hard to organize them.

The most beneficial part was that we could write essays step by step. Also, every time Nicole gave us good advice to improve our writing skills. I am very thankful to her for her kindness.

I think I am mostly prepared for Academic Writing. I have learned how to cite sources and how to put in-text citations. I have also learned that we should be careful not to exceed word counts. I think such knowledge is very useful when I write a longer essay.

There was many challenging parts in thie course but the most challenging part was writing the outline of the essay. When I wrote the outline, I was always searching for the good information and also thinking of the structure of the essay at the same time so I had to write the outline logically with good information. However, once I wrote the outline, I could easily write the body paragraph or conclusion.

The most beneficial part of this course was to write the essay step-by-step. If there's no system to write it step-by-step, I think I couldn't write the better essay because especially in April there was many mistakes in my essay. So by reviewing the feedback I could understand where I should revise and I could write the better essay.

I think that I'm prepared for Academic Writing a lot. It was the first experience to write the long essay so without this course I won't be able to write the longer and more difficult essay in the next semester. In this course I could learn many things such as structrue, in-text citation, paraphrase and summarizing. So I'll do my best to write the longer essay in Academic Writing with the knowledge I learned in this course.

The most challenging part of writing the essay was to stick to the dead line. It is quite a challenge when you faced with swarms of works. Other than that, to keep in mind what the style of the essay is. It is easy to digress all the time.

The most beneficial part of the class was I actually helped me quite a lot in term of techniques. Using intext citation is not easy but after the class, I felt more confident.

I am somewhat more confident, more perhaps I can use more practice. I often make mistakes, so ironing them out would be nice. However, if they ask me to write a academic writing, I might be able to pull it out.

The most challenging part of this course was to complete everything in english. Writing such a long amount of english was very difficult and made me tired. Also finishing each paragraphs on time was challenging too. One more thing was the in-text citation. For the first essay, I didnt understand how it worked so I wasnt able to use the citation. However, for the pesuation essay, I completed with citations .
The most beneficial part of the class was to actually finish two complete essays in proper format. We cant improve our writing without finishing certain piece of writing. I think the benificial part was that the chance was provided to us to finish an essay.
I think Im not ready for academic writing because it was tough than anything else to finish the minimum word limit for each essays. Though, I will try to stay on track by reducing my sleeping time.

The most challenging part of the course was to keep up with the due every week. It was particularly hard when the essay just started and we had to think of outline. It was because outline decides the structure of our essay and is very important to have an organized outline beforehand.

The most beneficial part was that the teacher gave us the feedback to our drafts with corrections. That enabled me to modify my essay every time. Thus, my essay became better and better accordingly.

To be honest, I am not fully confident to write an academic essay by myself as well as the one I wrote for this course. It is because the feedback was too useful to write without.

What I found most difficult in this course was keeping up with everyone. I always had a hard time in understanding what we were doing during class, and found it hard to make my essays as well made as the others. It was my first time to write such long sentences in English, so that was also hard.

I learned that however long the essay, I must do everything step by step. By doing so, I could somehow keep up with the others. If these procedures were not held this way, I'm sure would have had an even harder time.

I'm not so sure if I am prepared for academic writing, but would like to do my best with the skills I learned in this course. And I would like to keep in mind about writing my sentences little by little in order to keep everything in order.

The most challenging thing was to get various sources from the web. It may sound easy but actually, it was difficult to find the exact-wanted source. I had to search a lot but glad I was able to find them and write my essay based on those.

The most beneficial thing was that we wrote it step by step. This was much more better and beneficial than writhing the whole essay by one due date. Also, by doing this, it was easier to make corrections by taking a look at Nicole's comments.

I am not sure if I am ready for academic writing but I know I have to try my best to write a better essay. I learned how to write an essay when I was in forth grade and I learned in this course too. So I am gaining my writing skills.

The most challenging part for me in this class was to do the peer editing for my partner. I couldnt find any mistakes for my partner for both of my essay. Also, it was hard to cite the information in my essay properly.

I believe that the most benifitial part of this course was that we learned how to write two types of essay. Also, learning the way to cite informations and to write the MLA references was good for me too. I think this skill will become handy for me later on in school life.

I believe that I am a little bit prepared for Academic writing. However I think that I am not prepared enough. So, I will go through what we did in this class during the summer and try to get ready.

This may be a stupid answer, but the most difficult part of this course was definitely writing the essay. It was nice to plot out the essay and to learn how to write various types of essay, but it was not easy to write the essay itself. I faced various problems along the way, and I must say that this class have helped me improve on my writing skills. This leads to the answer for what was beneficial in this class. This class have taught me various knowledge for essay writing, which I will treasure.

I must say that I have never been ready for any class in my LIFE. I just hope I can learn along the way and achieve new knowledge as we go.

The most challenging part of my essay was that I had a really hard topic. At first I thought it would be easy to write about the revision of Article 9. But as I was searching for information online, I found different kinds of perspectives to think about the revision. Although it was hard for me to put those information into a neatly formed essay, it was a good chance for me to learn about the things that are happening around me today.

The most beneficial part of this course was that I got to learn the structure of a well written essay. It was helpful to learn both the do's and don'ts.

I don't think I am ready for academic writing because I still have to look through the handouts on the structures when I am writing. I think I need to brush up my writing skills first before I can move on to academic writing.

The most challenging part of this course was writing essay itself. It was my first time to write complete essays. I think it was great opportunity to be able to be better at writing.

The most beneficial part of this course was that we could get comments from teacher every time we submitted drafts. Since it was my first time to write essays this way, getting comments helped me how I could make it better.

And I don't think I'm completely ready for academic writing class. Even though I became better at writing than before, I'm not confident enough. And in academic writing, I think I will write whole essay at one time, not step-by-step so that's what I'm worried about.

There were many challenges that I experienced through IE3 writing. The most hardest thing was making bibliography, because it was my first time to hear the word bibliography and MLA citation. It took sometime for me to understand how to make it.
All of the things that you taught us were beneficial. One thing that I thought that I want to use in writing my other essays was making outline. It really helped me in
composing my essays.
I learned many things through your essay, and I'm sure that they will work on my academic writing. However, I'm still not sure about wether I can write longer essay. Thank you very much!!

The most challenging part of this class was bibliography. At first, I couldn't understand what is it and it took me for a while to understand. I was confused and it was complicated for me. I also made a lot of mistakes.

Th most beneficial thing was to write an essay in formal style. Before I learn how to write it , my essay was messy and didn't write in the right format. In the class, I learned how to write introduction, body paragraph, conclusion and so on.

I'm not sure if I am ready for my academic course but I hope I can make use of what I leaened in thus class!

The most challenging part of this course was writing a hook sentence. It was my first time writing it so it took a long time to come up with a good phrase.

The most beneficial part was that we learned how to write essay in correct format. It made me finish them easier.

I think I am not ready yet. Although I've learned a lot through this class, I'm still not confident with it. I still make many mistakes and have lots to improve.

1. The most challenging part of the course for me was the persuasion essay. This was mainly because of the fact that I chose a topic that was only slightly related to my interests. I found the classification essay to be much easier and enjoyable.

2. The most beneficial part of the course was learning to effectively use in text citations and MLA format. I only knew vaguely how to use them before I took the course, so this was a very helpful thing I learned.

3.Yes I do. I've been writing much more than what's been required for this class, and since you told me that I'm ready, I feel confident that I am ready.

The most challenging part for me in this course was to come up with what to write about. Though chosing the theme of the essay was not that hard, coming up with the details was hard for me. Especially the first essay was hard because in the second essay, you have a certain point of view to write the essay. However, you don't in the first one.

I believe the most benificial part of this course was that you learned how to cite sources. I also thought that it was really benifitial to learn the correct essay structure.

I think I am halfway ready for the Academic Writing class. I learned how to write essays, but haven't mastered it yet so I think I'm just half way ready.
