OE 2 Spring 2013:  Lesson 2

4/17/2013

Hi everyone,

Wow!  There was so much to do in yesterday's class.  I can't believe how 90 minutes passed!

Opinion Giving:
We had a short review activity about the expressions for giving your opinion and for agreeing and disagreeing with opinions.  Make sure to support your opinion with a reason and/or example.  When you want to ask for somebody's opinion, you can use these expressions:
1.  What are your feelings on this?
2.  What do you think about this?

Discussion Schedule:
You also received our discussion schedule for this semester.  Make sure you note down your discussion date so that you can prepare your worksheet.

If you forget to prepare for your discussion, you will not be able to reschedule your discussion.  You can only reschedule your discussion if you are seriously ill.  If this is the case, you need to contact me one day before and bring a medical certificate to the next lesson.

Discussion Worksheet:
We also learned how to complete a discussion worksheet.  You will have to download the worksheet and complete it before your discussion.  You can find this worksheet in the Discussion Skills section of the website.  There are also links to different English language newspaper sites in the Useful Links section.

We quickly went through the steps to complete your worksheet.  If you would like to review these steps, you can check the slide presentation in the Discussion Skills section “How to Complete your Worksheet.”

Homework:
1.  Discussion preparation (see schedule)
  • Remember to prepare vocabulary cards (see the handout after the blog question)
2.  Blog posting #2

Enjoy your weekend!

Blog Question #2:

Tell me about a childhood experience in your hometown (include the name of your hometown in your post).

* Write 8-10 sentences.
* Use capital letters, punctuation and spelling correctly.
*  Submit by Wednesday, April 24 by 6:00pm.
