Hi everyone,

We had a busy second lesson today. I was glad to see almost everyone in class today!

Speed Discussion:
After speed discussion, you wrote down the new words from the activity. When we talk about the military in Japan, we can use these words: (a) Self-Defense forces; (b) constitution; and (c) Article 9.

At the end of today's lesson, I collected your vocabulary notes. I'll return them next week with feedback on your notebook and homework.

Opinion Structure and Expressions:
We reviewed expressions to ask for and to give an opinion, and also expressions to agree and disagree with opinions.

We also review opinion structure. When you give an opinion, you need to include these parts:
a.  opinion expression
b.  your opinion (=What do you think about something?)
c.  a reason
d. examples (e.g. personal and media examples)

Opinion Presentations
For the last part of our lesson, we went through the steps for preparing your opinion presentations. They are similar to your discussions, but you have to use a longer article and learn your information in detail before our lesson.

For your presentation, you CANNOT use your worksheet. However, you can have one index card. One one side, you have have key words/phrases to help you remember your summary and opinion.

On the other side, you can write down your four questions.

I have uploaded the slide presentation from our lesson in the Discussion Skills Lesson Materials section of the website.
